Membership Requirements
Becoming a member of the South African Association of Mediators (SAAM) offers professionals the opportunity to be part of a recognised body committed to upholding the highest standards in mediation practice.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
To apply for membership, applicants must meet the following criteria:

A minimum of Matric plus three years of post-matric studies.

A background in Legal and/or Social Sciences is advantageous.

Successful completion of a NABFAM-accredited mediation training or an application based on prior learning and relevant experience.

Membership Categories
SAAM offers two membership categories:

Associate Member: Applicants who have met the academic qualifications but have not yet been accredited by SAAM’s Executive Committee. Associate Members are encouraged to complete the required training and apply for full accreditation within six months of joining.

Practising Mediator: Accredited members who have completed the required mediation training and meet the educational standards prescribed by SAAM. These members are authorised to practise as mediators or ADR practitioners.

Fees and Payments

First-Time Accreditation Application Fee:
A once-off payment due upon approval of the application. Accreditation is valid for 12 months. -
Continued Accreditation Fee:
Payable annually upon renewal of accreditation. -
Annual Membership Fee:
Applicable to all members and payable annually on or before 31 March. The membership cycle runs from 1 April to 31 March each year. To maintain your standing as a member, all fees must be paid in accordance with the timelines above.
