1. Accreditation of training programmes
1.1   The chair person/vice-chairperson of SAAM to form part of the accreditation panel;
1.2   As far as the roll out of the process is concerned the following has been agreed to be the SAAM executive Committee:

1.3   The panel will convene at pre-arranged venues and times as indicated on the SAAM website

1.4   Course presenters must book their appointments slots through the SAAM secretary, who will confirm with all parties a week before the meeting and send confirmation once payment has been received.

1.5   To be cost effective the moderator/s will be present on skype or telephone conference. If the course presenter chooses the moderator to be present in person, a cost schedule will be presented which will be borne by the presenter.

1.6   Documentation to reach the panel two weeks in advance to allow the panel to study according to minimum standards criteria and to be sent to the moderator. (Proposed documentation as per checklist to be forwarded to committee for perusal). Documentation to be archived in case of queries.

1.7   Accreditation fees to be paid to the SAAM secretary at registration prior to the allocation of a date.

1.8   At Accreditation meeting documentation will be discussed, questions asked including methodology, training, etc

1.9   Once a course is given SAAM accreditation status the information be posted on the website as part of the accreditation fee. This would be limited for a period for 6 months thereafter a nominal yearly fee for advertising would be included in the yearly tariffs/membership fees;

1.10   Accreditation is a time consuming process but also has cost implications for SAAM: telephone conferences; skype (ADSL); postage; copies; etc.

1.11   We surveyed other organizations and noted that accreditation is up to R6,000.00 per course for their members. It was decided that a distinction is made between members and non-members. We further suggest that cost for accreditation be R3000.00 per course for members and R4500.00 for non-members. Courses previously accredited pay a once off fee of R750.00 for accreditation under the new criteria.

1.12   Members of the Committee and the Panel will sign a non-disclosure document to safe guard the course presenter against any disclosure of the presentation and course content/material that came to the knowledge of the committee.

1.13   External Moderation, if and where indicated, will form part of the accreditation panel either in an advisory capacity or in overseeing role or to do quality control. These moderators will be chosen from different fields: mediation (On the list of invitees are the Chairperson of FAMAC, John O’Leary, Prof Wilma Hoffman, professor emeritus (Wits), Shlomo Leibovich from Israel); law (Judge Mohammed Ishmael; Graeme Greenstein, family lawyer and others); psychology (Margi Eloff Psychologist/Mediator, Elise Fourie Educational psychologist and others); Financial matters etc.
2. In terms of accreditation of Mediators the following is proposed
The Accreditation committee will at the bi-weekly meetings deal with the accreditation of practicing members; If short comings are found in existing members on the basis of existing courses; lack of practical experience etc, the relevant member/s will be given a reasonable period of time, as negotiated with the member, to rectify these short comings to enable them to meet criteria set by SAAM.

Names will be given to the SAAM secretary as well as the SAAM membership Committee.
